What is Melotin MR?

Melotin MR tablets contain the active ingredient Melatonin 2mg which mimics naturally occurring melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that the brain naturally produces in response to darkness. 

Melotin MR is used to improve sleep quality and morning alertness in patients over the age of 55. It can be used for the short term treatment of primary insomnia characterized by poor quality sleep.

What is Sleep?

Sleep is a recurring state which is characterized by a lessened consciousness, lesser awareness to surroundings and lesser movement - usually occurring for an average of 8 hours every night.

The optimal amount of sleep each night varies between individuals. The body has a natural method of regulating how much sleep we need - the homeostatic process and our natural circadian rhythms. If these rhythms become disturbed, the quality of our sleep can be affected, impacting our health and regular daytime functions (Cicadin, 2021).

Principles of good sleep hygiene:

• Go to bed and arise at the same time each day
• Engage in relaxing activities before bed
• Exercise regularly but not late in the evening
• Avoid eating meals or large snacks just before bedtime
• Eliminate daytime naps
• Minimise external disruption (e.g. light and noise)
• If you are unable to sleep, don't become anxious; leave the bedroom and participate in relaxing activities such as reading or listening to music until you're tired.
