Are you feeling tired or having difficulty concentrating? You might have anaemia.

What is Anaemia?

When you have anaemia, it means that the levels of either your red blood cells or haemoglobin are lower than normal, meaning that there is not enough oxygen travelling around your body. Although anaemia itself is not a disease, it is a result of something that isn’t working properly in your body. The most common causes of anaemia are iron deficiency, malabsorption, or inherited disorders.

Women are at a higher risk of getting anaemia due to menstruation or heavy periods, with every 3 in 10 women of childbearing age having anaemia. Anaemia can also develop in pregnant women due to the increasing need for iron throughout the pregnancy.

The symptoms of anaemia may include:

  • Tiredness
  • Fast and/or irregular heartbeat
  • Dizziness or lightheaded
  • Shortness of breath during what would usually be an easy activity
  • Paleness
  • Cold hands and feet

If you think you may have anaemia, our pharmacy offers anaemia screening for a small cost of $14.99, providing an accurate reading on your haemoglobin levels. Our friendly pharmacy staff members are highly trained and able to provide accurate readings every day!
