Being SunSmart this Summer with Oberon Pharmacy.

At Oberon Pharmacy, we value the importance of sun safety. The sun’s ultra-violet (UV) radiation is the main cause of skin cancer. Every two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70 and roughly 2,000 people die from it each year. We can reduce the chances of skin cancer by protecting our skin with SPF+ sunscreen. By adding sunscreen application to your daily routine, you lower your chances of developing skin cancers (squamous cell carcinoma [SCC] by up to 40 percent & melanoma by up to 50 percent). Not only does sunscreen reduce this rick, but also the risk of premature aging including wrinkles, sagging, and age spots.

Using a SPF 50+ sunscreen provides you with the largest amount of protection from the harsh Australian sun. Sunscreen should be applied daily, regardless of how much exposure to the sun you’re planning to get. If you are spending time outdoors, sunscreen SPF 50+ should be reapplied every two hours at least 30 minutes before going in the sun.

As well as sunscreen, you should also be taking other precautions to reduce your chances of sunburn and skin cancer. A rash shirt or t-shirt is always a great way of protecting your upper body, sunglasses and a hat to protect your head and face and seek shade when possible.

Oberon Pharmacy has a wide range of sunscreen products that’ll help you protect your precious skin this summer. Pop in or hop on our website www.oberonpharmacy.com.au for more information.
